What are Tier Benefits:
Tier benefits are rewards or perks customers receive only by reaching or staying in a certain loyalty tier.
Rewards or perks you give customers when they reach or stay in a tier. They make higher tiers more valuable, encourage progression, and keep customers engaged.
You can add tier benefits to several shopper-facing tier components so customers always see which benefits are available to them.
Types of Tier Benefits
There are three types of tier benefit you can set up in LoyaltyLion:
Automatic - sets up the text on the loyalty page + also automatically awards the benefit on every applicable purchase (e.g. free shipping or 10% off)
Entry Rewards - sets up the text on the loyalty page + also triggers a one-time reward that is awarded to the customer when they enter the tier (e.g. free $5 voucher)
Basic (text only) benefits - sets up the text on the loyalty page only
1. Automatic
Benefits you automatically give customers when they reach or stay in a tier.
Note: These require the Shopify Metafields integration (Manage > Integrations > Shopify). Syncing after enabling the integration may take up to 24 hours for stores with 1m+ customers.
When adding these benefits, you can set:
Minimum spend - required spend before the benefit applies
Maximum discount - maximum discount applied, which is useful particularly to limit your exposure when you have multiple shipping options

Make sure you are comfortable with the discount before saving your changes.
Available Automatic Discounts:
Free Shipping
Apply free shipping to specific tiers. Customers in those tiers automatically receive free shipping at checkout.
This discount will appear in Shopify as:
LoyaltyLion Free Shipping
% Discount
Set a discount percentage for each tier (for example, 5% in Silver, 10% in Gold). Customers in those tiers will have the discount applied automatically.
This discount will appear in Shopify as:
LoyaltyLion Percentage Discount
2. Entry rewards
These are one-off rewards granted when a customer enters a new tier.
For example, a $5 off voucher on entry to the Silver tier.
Entry rewards are especially powerful for celebrating milestones and driving excitement around progression.
3. Basic (text only) benefits
Add additional perks that LoyaltyLion does not fulfil directly. Examples include:
Early access to sales
Invitations to events
Exclusive product drops
Priority customer service
Whilst we can provide guidance on how to fulfil these benefits, LoyaltyLion is not responsible for fulfilment and we are therefore not able to assist in creating the fulfilment options.
Fulfilment guidance:
Early Access to Sales/New Product Launches
Option 1 - Using your ESP - create hidden sales/collection pages and email only eligible tier members.
Ensure your ESP integration is installed - use our tiers merge field to segment customers.
Create a hidden page with the sale products/new releases.
Using your ESP, send an email campaign to all customers within the segmented tier group that should have early access. Within the email, include a link to the hidden page created in step 2.
Option 2 - Using tier tags to display exclusive pricing for eligible customers [Shopify Plus only]
Email support@loyaltylion.com and ask them to enable Tier Tags. This is done via our Shopify Metafields integration. Once this is enabled, your customer's tier will be displayed as a tag within Shopify.
Using the tier information that is pushed through to Shopify, if the customer matches the appropriate level, display the sale prices on-site for the customer.
Email customers in this tier to let them know they have early access on-site.
Priority Customer Service
Setup will depend on how you are operating your customer service. If you run this via a support email address, you could do the following:
Create a priority customer service email address.
Share this with customers using your ESP.
Ensure your customer service team checks this email as a matter of priority over other support requests.
This can also be automated if you're using one of the supported Helpdesk integrations.
How to add tier benefits
In the LoyaltyLion admin, go to Manage > Tiers
Click into the Benefits tab
Click the + to add benefits or click into a pre-existing benefit to edit
Use the checkboxes to select which tier(s) a benefit applies to
Save your changes.
Displaying tier benefits to customers
Showcase tier benefits to your customers so they understand the benefits they have access to in their current tier and will get if they move up a tier.
Any tier benefits you add will automatically display on your loyalty page under the Tiers section if you are using the Theme Editor, or in the tier overview component from the SDK:
FAQ
Q: Can tier benefits be stacked with other rewards?
Yes, by default, they can be combined. This means a customer who has a 5% off automatic discount applied, could also make use of a $5 off reward on the same purchase
Q: My tier benefits have stopped working, what's wrong?
It may be that the discount has been deleted from your Shopify account in error. To check, Login to your Shopify account, click into Discounts and check they are still there. If they are not, go back to LoyaltyLion and simply re-save on the tier benefits page. You should then see the discount re-appear in Shopify
