What are tier benefits:

There are many different benefits you may want to make available for different tier levels. Tier benefits are a great way to incentivize customers to move up your tier structure. Unlike rewards, benefits are not redeemable for points.

Tier benefits can be added to several of our tier components so your customers are aware of these benefits. Whilst these benefits would be fulfilled using tools outside of LoyaltyLion, this document outlines a range of different benefits you could consider and how these could be fulfilled. Please note, whilst we can provide guidance on how to fulfill these benefits, we are not responsible for fulfillment and we are not able to assist in creating the fulfillment options.

There are two main components you can display your tier benefits within.

How can I add tier benefits to my store?

If you would like to add benefits to either of these components, please send an email to support@loyaltylion.com providing a csv file that outlines what benefits should be available to each tier following the format in this example:

Please note that we will add your benefits in using the exact wording/spelling you provide. You should ensure this is correct to prevent needing to make changes once the benefits have been created.

When we create the benefits, we assign each benefit a sort_code which determines the position the benefit will appear in. If you would like the benefits to be in a particular order, please bear this in mind when creating the benefits.

What are some example benefits?

There are many different benefits you may wish to offer to different tier levels within your program, some popular options are listed below:

  • Early access to sales

  • Early access to new product launches

  • Exclusive discounts

  • Priority Customer Service

  • Exclusive gift upon entering tier

How can I fulfill tier benefits?

In order to fulfill tier benefits, please ensure your tiers are launched. Please note, whilst we can provide guidance on how to fulfill these benefits, we are not responsible for fulfillment and we are not able to assist in creating the fulfillment options.

Free shipping - Shopify Plus Only

  1. Email support@loyaltylion.com and ask them to enable Tier Tags. This is done via our Shopify Metafields integration. Once this is enabled, your customer's tier will be displayed as a tag within Shopify.

  2. Using Shopify Scripts, create a script that applies free shipping to the cart for customers in a specific tier(s).

  3. Email customers using your ESP to let them know about the exclusive discount available.

Early Access to Sales/Early Access to New Product Launches

Option 1 - Using your ESP

  1. Ensure your ESP integration is installed - use our tiers merge field to segment customers.

  2. Create a hidden page with the sale products/new releases.

  3. Using your ESP, send an email campaign to all customers within the segmented tier group that should have early access. Within the email, include a link to the hidden page created in step 2.

Option 2 - Shopify Plus only

  1. Email support@loyaltylion.com and ask them to enable Tier Tags. This is done via our Shopify Metafields integration. Once this is enabled, your customer's tier will be displayed as a tag within Shopify.

  2. Using the tier information that is pushed through to Shopify, if the customer matches the appropriate level, display the sale prices on-site for the customer.

  3. Email customers in this tier to let them know they have early access on-site.

Exclusive discounts

Option 1 - Using your ESP

  1. Ensure your ESP integration is installed - use our tiers merge field to segment customers.

  2. Create an email campaign that is sent to the segmented customer group who should have access to the exclusive discounts.

  3. Add in discount codes from your ecommerce platform that customers can use to apply an exclusive discount in the checkout.

Option 2 - Shopify Plus only

  1. Email support@loyaltylion.com and ask them to enable Tier Tags. This is done via our Shopify Metafields integration. Once this is enabled, your customer's tier will be displayed as a tag within Shopify.

  2. Using Shopify scripts, create a script that applies a discount to the cart if the customer is in the specified tier.

  3. Email customers using your ESP to let them know about the exclusive discount available.

Priority Customer Service

This will depend on how you are operating your customer service. If you run this via a support email address, you could do the following:

  1. Create a priority customer service email address.

  2. Share this with customers using your ESP.

  3. Ensure your customer service team checks this email as a matter of priority over other support requests.

Exclusive Gifts

Option 1 - Customer adds gift to cart (Shopify only)

  1. Email support@loyaltylion.com and ask them to enable Tier Tags. This is done via our Shopify Metafields integration. Once this is enabled, your customer's tier will be displayed as a tag within Shopify.

  2. Create hidden pages displaying the different gifts available.

  3. Add links to these pages within your loyalty page.

  4. Using the metafields integration, ensure only customers in the appropriate tier can add the product to their cart.

Option 2 - Gift is automatically added to cart (Shopify Plus only)

  1. Using Shopify Flow, create a flow of events:

    • Customer hits LoyaltyLion trigger 'Customer moved up a tier level'

    • Shopify tags customer, for example "Add Free Gift" using Flow

    • Create a script using Shopify Scripts to check for customer tag, and if it exists add free gift to the cart

  2. Create a second, separate flow using Shopify Flow to check every completed order:

    • If customer has completed an order

    • Remove "Add Free Gift" tag exists (since the completed order means the gift has been added, ensuring the customer cannot continually receive the free gift)

Option 3 - Using your ESP and Shopify Flow (Shopify Plus Only)

  1. Ensure your ESP integration is installed - use our tiers merge field to segment customers.

  2. Create a hidden page with the gift you would like to give to customers.

  3. Using your ESP, create an email template with a link to the hidden 'gift' product page.

  4. Within Shopify Flow, create a flow using the trigger 'Customer moves up a tier' to send this email at the right time giving that customer access to the gift.

Alternatively, if you are using Klaviyo and on our Plus Plan, you can use our klaviyo triggers to send an email automatically when a customer enters a new tier level. More information on this can be found here.
