Hidden tiers

Keep a tier off your loyalty page so only the customers in it can see it.

Tiers are available on our Advanced and Plus plans, and as an add-on on Classic. To add tiers to your account, contact our Support team at support@loyaltylion.com.

Overview

Hiding keeps a tier off the tier list on your loyalty page, so only the customers who are in it can see it. Everything else about the tier works normally, so your activity rules and reward costs still apply to the customers inside it.

Hiding is not a tier type of its own. It is an option you apply to a tier, and you can hide as many of your tiers as you want. If you hide all of them, your tier system becomes completely invisible to your shoppers while still changing what they earn and what your rewards cost. That suits a structure such as wholesale and retail, where you want different groups on different rates without showing anyone a ladder to climb.

The two ways to hide a tier

LoyaltyLion gives you two, and the difference between them is how your customers get in.

  • Hidden tiers are assigned manually. You create them in the Hidden tiers section of your tier structure, and you move each customer in yourself. Nobody is placed in one automatically, and nobody reaches one by spending or earning.

  • Hidden conditional tiers are assigned by tag. Any conditional tier can be hidden using its Hidden from customers checkbox, and it still fills automatically from the Shopify tag.

Choosing between them comes down to one question. If you want a tier that is invisible and fills itself, hide a conditional tier. If you want to choose every member by hand, use a hidden tier.

Conditional tiers are assigned by a tag on your customer's Shopify profile, so they are available on Shopify and Shopify Plus only. There is more on setting one up under conditional and subscriber tiers.

Who to put in a hidden tier

  • Your most loyal customers, as a reward that nobody else knows exists.

  • Brand ambassadors, who you want to pay in points and rewards.

  • Wholesalers, whose buying habits differ from your regular shoppers, so you can set them to earn at a different rate without excluding them from your program.

  • Your staff, who you want on their own rules without advertising the fact.

How to add a hidden tier

Hidden tiers are part of your tier structure, so add them before you launch. Once your tiers are launched you cannot add or remove them yourself.

  1. In LoyaltyLion, go to Program, and then Tiers.

  2. Click Manage structure.

  3. Scroll to the Hidden tiers section.

  4. Click Add hidden tier, and enter a tier name.

  5. Set the activity points and reward costs for the tier, the same way you would for any other tier.

  6. Finish your setup and launch your tiers.

Once your tiers are live, move each customer in from their customer page, using Actions and then Change tier, as covered in changing a customer's tier.

How hidden tiers appear in LoyaltyLion

On your Tiers page we list your hidden tiers at the bottom, after your regular tiers, so you can always see and manage them even though your shoppers cannot.

On your loyalty page, a hidden tier is shown only to the customers who are in it. Every other shopper sees your visible tiers and nothing else.

FAQ

Can customers be added to a hidden tier automatically?

Only if it is a hidden conditional tier, which fills from a Shopify tag. A hidden tier created in the Hidden tiers section is manual entry only, so you move every customer in yourself.

Can I import customers into a hidden tier?

No. Tier imports cannot place customers into hidden tiers, so those rows are rejected. Move your customers in by hand from their customer pages instead.

Can I move a customer back out of a hidden tier?

Yes. A customer in a hidden tier can be moved back down into your regular tiers, which is not true of customers in your boundary tiers. Use Actions and then Change tier on their customer page.

Do my rules and rewards still apply in a hidden tier?

Yes. A hidden tier behaves like any other tier for the customers inside it. Only its visibility on your loyalty page changes.
