Voucher rewards

Free product, product discount and collection discount rewards, and the settings they share

Overview

Three of your reward types are vouchers. A customer spends points to claim one, and gets a discount code to apply at checkout:

  • Free product (voucher) gives a specific product for free

  • Product discount (voucher) gives money or a percentage off one specific product

  • Collection discount (voucher) gives money or a percentage off anything in a collection you choose

All three are useful for moving overstock or promoting products that are not selling quickly.

To see which plans include these rewards, see our pricing page. On the Free plan you can add them from the Enhance LoyaltyLion tab. Collection discount is available on Shopify only.

Product discount (voucher)

Use this when you want to discount a product rather than give it away.

  1. Log in to your LoyaltyLion account

  2. Go to Program, then Rewards

  3. Click Create reward in the top right

  4. Select Product discount (voucher)

  5. Click Find product and search for the product you want to discount

  6. Enter the cost to redeem and the discount amount

  7. Name the reward, add an image, and add any terms and conditions

  8. Click Create to save the reward

Collection discount (voucher)

A collection discount works like any money-off or percentage-off voucher, except the discount only applies to items from the collection you select. It is a good way to promote a new collection. This reward type is available on Shopify only.

  1. Log in to your LoyaltyLion account

  2. Go to Program, then Rewards

  3. Click Create reward in the top right

  4. Choose either Collection fixed discount or Collection percentage discount

  5. Select the collection you want to discount

  6. Set a cost in points and your discount amount

  7. Click Create to save the reward

If you set a minimum purchase requirement on a collection discount, it applies only to items from that collection. A customer must meet that minimum on collection items alone to qualify.

Settings these rewards share

Whichever voucher reward you create, you can also set:

  • Checkout limit: whether a customer can redeem several of the same reward on one order, or only one per checkout

  • Redemption limit: how many times a customer can redeem this reward in a timeframe you choose, even if they have the points

  • Inventory limit: a cap on how many times the reward can be redeemed across your whole program

  • Expiration period: how long a customer has to use the reward after claiming it

  • Display: the name and image customers see on your loyalty page

  • Custom prefix: so you can identify this reward's discount codes

  • Discount combinations: whether customers can stack this reward with other discounts on your site

How a customer claims a voucher

A customer claims the reward on your loyalty page and receives a discount code to apply at checkout.

For a free product voucher, we add the product to the customer's cart at /cart when they claim it. If your store uses a different cart path, the customer may need to add the product themselves and then apply the code. If they do not check out straight away, their cart may be cleared by the time they return, in which case they add the product again and apply their code.

For a collection discount, the reward button includes a view collection link that takes the customer straight to that collection.

FAQ

Can I discount a product rather than give it away free?

Yes. Use the Product discount (voucher) reward, search for your product, choose a variant if you need one, then enter a discount amount.

Why does my reward show as a "Fixed amount" discount in Shopify?

Free product and product discount rewards appear in Shopify as fixed amount discounts rather than percentage discounts. Shopify applies a percentage discount to every item in the cart matching that product ID, not just one. To keep the discount applying to a single item, we save the reward as a fixed amount that matches the percentage you set.

Can I choose multiple variants for the same reward?

No. You can choose one variant per reward.

I use a custom platform. How do I upload the vouchers?

On a custom platform you provide the name and URL, then upload the vouchers manually, as you would for any other voucher reward. It is up to you to upload vouchers with conditions that restrict them to the right product, because we do not enforce that on our side.
