Redeem points at checkout is available on Shopify Plus, from the Classic plan up, and your store must be using Shopify Checkout Extensibility.
In this article:
Overview
Redeem points at checkout lets your customer spend points for money off inside the Shopify checkout itself, instead of claiming a voucher on your loyalty page first. They see their balance, choose how much to redeem, and the discount applies to the order in front of them.
How to set up the reward
In LoyaltyLion, go to Program, then Rewards
Click Create reward
Select Redeem points at checkout
Add the points cost per $1, or whatever currency your store uses. If you have been through onboarding, use your points calculator as a guide
Choose your Redemption type from the three options below
Click Create
Free-form entry
Your customer types any discount value between the Minimum discount and Maximum discount you set.
How it looks at the checkout:
Free-form entry does not send Reward available events. If your email or SMS flows rely on Klaviyo events, Attentive events or LoyaltyLion email triggers, this reward will not trigger them. Choose one of the other two redemption types if you need those events.
Fixed amounts within a range
Your customer picks from a list of fixed amounts between the Minimum discount and Maximum discount you set. You choose the Increment value, and we show every option in between.
How it looks at the checkout:
Set specific discount amounts
You list the exact discount amounts your customer can choose from, at any values you like.
Both of the list-based types also let you set a Default discount amount, which is the option selected for your customer to begin with, and tick Hide unavailable discounts so a customer never sees an amount they cannot afford.
How it looks at the checkout:
Sending a reward available event
Turn this on if you want Redeem points at checkout to trigger the Reward available event. It is available with Fixed amounts within a range and Set specific discount amounts, but not with free-form entry.
Other settings
Customer redemption limit. How many times one customer can redeem this reward in a period you choose. This is a count, not a cap on the amount of any one order
Discount code prefix. Applied to all generated codes, in place of the default LL-. This needs the Advanced plan
Subscription products. Whether Redeem at checkout codes apply to subscription products
Purchase restrictions. Limit the reward to products in a collection you choose, and add an Explanation your customers see telling them what the restriction is
Discount combinations. Whether this reward stacks with other discounts on your site
Minimum spend. The cart total a customer must reach before they can redeem. You can also set a floor the cart must stay above after the discount, which stops a customer reducing their order to zero
Check the Sales channels selected in the reward's Visibility section. If the right channels are not selected the reward will not appear on your storefront. All channels are enabled by default.
If your customer redeems points at the checkout and then abandons the order, we return their points after 60 minutes.
Adding the reward to your Shopify checkout
Once the reward is set up in LoyaltyLion, add its component to your checkout in your Shopify admin.
In your Shopify settings, click Checkout, then Customize
On the checkout editor, click Add app in the bottom right
Select the checkout-redemption component
Drag the component to where you want it in the checkout
Click the app to set its behaviour, including whether it appears in the Shop Pay checkout
Click Save in the top right
Place the app block near the top of the Information or Payments page, so the reward is visible on mobile without scrolling.
To take the reward off your checkout, select it in the editor and click Remove app from checkout in the bottom right.
FAQ
Does Redeem at checkout work with pre-order items?
No. Pre-order apps have no shared way of reporting which items in a cart are pre-ordered, so we cannot apply the discount reliably. Other one-time discounts still work as expected, because Shopify handles those.
If you sell pre-order items, say so in your Redeem at checkout text. You can edit it in Display, then Languages: select your language and search for the Redeemable points subheader string.
