Overview
A headless Shopify store keeps Shopify for products, orders and checkout, but shows your storefront through your own front end. LoyaltyLion works on a headless store, and your developers build the loyalty experience into your front end.
How to set up LoyaltyLion on a headless store
Install LoyaltyLion as a Shopify store and follow onboarding as normal. We still sync your orders and signups from Shopify automatically.
Load the LoyaltyLion SDK on every page of your front end, following our SDK installation guide. If a page doesn't load the SDK, your customers may not be able to see their loyalty program there.
Initialize the SDK and authenticate your customers, so we know who is signed in. See initialize the SDK.
Check your login and signup URLs. If they are
/account/loginand/account/register, there's nothing to do. If they're different, send the correct URLs to support@loyaltylion.com and we'll update them for you.
Building your loyalty experience
Your developers can build your loyalty experience in 2 ways.
With the SDK, you add our ready-made embeddable components, such as the loyalty page and loyalty panel, to your front end. Headless front ends often change the page without reloading it, and our components don't refresh on their own, so your developers need to update them when that happens. See live updating.
With the Headless API, your developers build every part of the loyalty experience themselves and call LoyaltyLion for the data. See the Headless API documentation.

On a headless storefront, features that change the cart through Shopify's storefront scripts don't work, so In-Cart Rewards aren't available.
FAQ
Can customers redeem points at checkout on a headless store?
Yes. If your headless store uses the standard Shopify checkout, and you're on Shopify Plus, you can add Redeem points at checkout.
Are notifications supported on a headless store?
Yes. Notifications work on a headless store once the SDK is loaded. Find out more in our Shopify installation guide.
