Overview

The Visit a URL rule gives your customers points for opening any page you choose. Use it to send them to a blog post, a lookbook, a partner site, a survey, or anything else you want them to see.

This rule is not on every plan. Check our pricing page to see whether it is included in yours, or whether you can add it.

It's recommended to price this activity low, much like the Social rules. We cannot verify if the customer did what you want them to do, like read a blog post, once they follow the link.

Setting up the rule

  1. Go to Program, then Rules, then Create rule.

  2. Choose Visit a URL.

  3. Under Customer gets, set the number of Points.

  4. Set the Customer limit. This rule always has one, so decide how many times per day, week, month, year or lifetime a customer can earn from it. Choose 1 per lifetime if you only want to pay for the first visit.

  5. Fill in the Display section: the Title shown on your loyalty page, and the Notification a customer sees when they earn the points. Be explicit in the title about where you are sending them and what you want them to do.

  6. Under Configuration, enter the Visit URL. Check it carefully, as we send your customers straight there.

  7. Click Create in the top right.

You can create as many Visit a URL rules as you like, so it works well for a rotating set of destinations.

Attribution and tracking

The rule completes within a few seconds of your customer opening the destination, because we cannot see what they do once they leave. The points are for the click, not for reading the page.

Add UTM parameters to the destination URL if you want to measure what the rule sends you. That way the traffic shows up in Google Analytics, or whatever you use, attributed to source, medium and campaign alongside your other activity.

FAQ

What happens if a customer opens the link more than once?

That is up to the Customer limit you set. It is a required field, so there is always a limit: set it to 1 per lifetime and they earn once ever, or allow a repeat each week if you would rather reward the habit.

When does the rule limit reset?

A rule limit runs on the calendar interval, not on a rolling clock from the last completion. If the limit is once per month and a customer completes the rule on June 30th, they can complete it again on July 1st. They earn the points both times, then wait until August 1st for the next one.

What sort of pages can I send customers to?

Any page on the internet. Blog posts, social profiles, partner sites, a survey, a new collection, a video.

What does the customer see when they click it?

The destination opens in a new window on desktop, and a new tab on mobile, so your store stays open behind it.
