How does the sign up to the newsletter activity work?

Our newsletter signup does not integrate with your ESP. When your customer signs up for the newsletter rule, it merely integrates with the customer's accepted marketing field in Shopify.

If you're sending newsletters through your ESP, you'd need to synchronise Shopify's accepts marketing field with your ESP.


Newsletter rule vs customers

Below, we've listed all the scenarios that include your customers signing up for the newsletter and an explanation of when we reward them with points.

  1. Customer has already signed up for the newsletter before LoyaltyLion launched - We won't give those customers newsletter points. The newsletter rule in the UI will be hidden since the customer is ineligible to complete it.

  2. Customer already signed up for the newsletter before LL was launched, but unsubscribes and resubscribes quickly with the intent to resubscribe just to get the points - We won't give those customers newsletter points. The newsletter rule in the UI should say that they already signed up for the newsletter, but it won't say they completed the rule

  3. After the program launches, the customer signs up for a new account and checks the 'newsletter signup' box at that time - The customer will receive newsletter points, and their rule in the panel will show as completed

  4. Customer has already earned newsletter signup points and unsubscribes to try to get the points again - They won't get any further points on the same site. The rule will display in the UI as "completed"

  5. Customer is a member of a multi-site program and has signed up for the newsletter on site A, but not site B. Currently viewing site B - If there's also a newsletter rule on site B, it should show as available to complete. Signing up for site B's newsletter should earn them additional points.

  6. Customer is a member of a multi-site program with only a newsletter rule on site A and no newsletter rule on site B. Customer signs up for a newsletter on site B - Does not earn any points. Still eligible for points if they eventually sign up for a newsletter on site A.

  7. Guest customer signs up to newsletter after the program launch, but doesn't create a full account. Then, months later, they create a full account on the store. When the guest customer signs up for the newsletter, they will receive points in LoyaltyLion. When they eventually create their account, they should see the points for signing up for the newsletter in their account.



How to set up the newsletter activity reward?

  1. On your LoyaltyLion account, go to Program > Rules

  2. Select the Create rule button

  3. Select the Newsletter signup rule

  4. Change the number of points given to customers

  5. Enter a title for the rule

  6. (Optional) Edit the notification that is seen by customers when they receive points.

  7. Amend the options and click Create rule to save.


Claiming the rule

The customer would need to navigate to your Loyalty Page and find your collection reward from the Rules section of the page.
