The Newsletter signup rule works on Shopify only. It is included from our Small Business plan upwards and available as an add-on below that, so check our pricing page to see where your plan sits.

Overview
The Newsletter signup rule gives your customers points for opting in to marketing. It is a cheap way to grow the list you already send to, and it pairs well with a welcome flow that spends the points they just earned.
It reads Shopify's marketing consent on the customer record. It does not talk to your email platform, so nothing you do in Klaviyo, Attentive or anywhere else triggers it. If you send from one of those, keep Shopify's marketing consent in step with your platform, or customers will opt in somewhere we cannot see.
Setting up the rule
Go to Program, then Rules, then Create rule.
Choose Newsletter signup.
Under Customer gets, set the number of Points.
Fill in the Display section: the Title shown on your loyalty page, and the Notification a customer sees when they earn the points.
Click Create in the top right.
Your customers see the rule in the Ways to earn section of your loyalty page, alongside everything else they can do.
Who earns the points
A customer earns these points once, the first time they opt in to marketing after your program went live. Three things follow from that:
Customers who were already subscribed before you launched do not earn them. They opted in before the program existed, so there is nothing to reward. The rule does not show as available to them.
Unsubscribing and resubscribing does not earn them again. We remember the first time a customer opted in, so the trick does not work, whether they had already earned the points or were never eligible.
Guests can earn them. A shopper who opts in without an account still earns the points, and finds them waiting when they create an account later.
Running more than one store? Marketing consent is tracked separately for each one. A customer subscribed on one store can still earn the points on another, as long as that store has its own newsletter rule.
FAQ
Does this work with my email platform?
Not directly. We read Shopify's marketing consent, not your email platform, so a customer who subscribes only inside Klaviyo or Attentive earns nothing until that consent reaches Shopify. Sync the two and the rule follows.
A customer subscribed but did not get the points. Why?
The usual reason is that they had already opted in before your program launched, so they were never eligible.
It can also happen when Shopify records that a customer accepts marketing but does not record when they agreed. Without a date we cannot tell whether it happened after you launched, so we leave the points alone rather than award them wrongly.
Can I have more than one newsletter rule?
One per store. If you run several stores, each can have its own.
