Overview
Locked rewards let your customers see the rewards a higher tier unlocks, next to the ones they can redeem now. A locked reward shows its points cost and names the tier that unlocks it, but your customers can't redeem it until they reach that tier.
Locked rewards appear on your loyalty page and in your Shopify customer accounts.
How locked rewards can help you
Locked rewards show your customers exactly what reaching the next tier would get them. They turn a higher tier from a name into something concrete to work toward, and keep your best rewards in front of the customers most likely to chase them.
How to set up locked rewards
Locked rewards work with any reward you've turned off for some of your tiers. To turn a reward off for a tier, open it under Program, then Rewards, and untick that tier.
In LoyaltyLion, go to Settings, and then Rewards.
Click Rewards for higher tiers, at the bottom of the Rewards page.
Choose how these rewards appear:
Hide them. Your customers only see the rewards their tier can redeem.
Show them as locked. Locked rewards are listed with the rest, in the order you set on the Rewards page, and marked with the tier that unlocks them.
Group them by tier. Locked rewards are shown in a section for each tier that unlocks them.
Check the preview to see how a reward looks to customers below a tier and to customers in it.
Click Save. You'll see the message "Rewards for higher tiers saved".
Choosing how locked rewards look
When you show rewards as locked, the Theme Editor sets how each locked reward looks on your loyalty page. To change it, click Change in Theme Editor under the preview, or open Rewards, then Tier rewards, in the Theme Editor.
Choose a Locked style:
Tag, a banner on the reward naming the tier that unlocks it
Inline, a line on the reward naming the tier
Icon badge, a lock on the reward's icon, with the same line
Overlay, which covers the reward with a lock and the unlock message
When you group rewards by tier, each section's heading already names the tier, so locked rewards use your standard reward tile and the locked style doesn't apply. If you switch back to showing them as locked, your saved style returns.
Locked styles depend on where your loyalty page is built:
Locked styles apply to loyalty pages built in the Theme Editor. In the loyalty panel, or on a loyalty page not built in the Theme Editor, locked rewards always use the Inline look.
Wording & translations
On the Rewards for higher tiers page, set the wording your customers see on a locked reward:
Unlock message, the line naming the tier. Write {tier} where the tier's name goes.
Button text, shown on the redeem button, which your customers can't click.
If you leave these blank, we use our default wording in each language. You can set the wording for all tiers at once or for one tier at a time. If your loyalty program runs in more than one language, use the Language menu to set the wording for each one.
FAQ
Can my customers redeem a locked reward?
No. They see the reward and its points cost, but its button can't be clicked until they reach the tier that unlocks it.
Which tier does a locked reward name?
The nearest tier above your customer's current tier that can redeem it. If a reward is on for Gold, off for Platinum and on again for Diamond, a Silver customer sees "Gold", because that's the next tier they can actually reach.
Why isn't a tier-only reward showing as locked?
We only name tiers your customers can reach by spending. If the only tiers that can redeem a reward are hidden or conditional tiers, your customers in lower tiers don't see it at all. The caption under each tier on the reward's page tells you what that tier's customers see.
Why doesn't my locked style show on my loyalty page?
Either your rewards are grouped by tier, which uses the standard reward tile, or your loyalty page isn't built in the Theme Editor, which always uses the Inline look.
