This page provides comprehensive guidance on migrating from checkout.liquid to Checkout Extensibility, ensuring program continuity throughout the process

What you need to know:

  • Starting August 14, 2024, Shopify will begin the process of shutting down checkout.liquid for the Information, Shipping, and Payment pages

  • Starting January 6, 2025, Shopify will begin auto-upgrading checkouts that continue to use checkout.liquid with 30-day notice via email, which means checkout.liquid customizations will be lost

  • checkout.liquid support for the Thank you and Order status pages will continue until August 2025

  • Shopify Scripts support will continue until August 2025

LoyaltyLion features impacted:

  • Reward: Redeem Points at Checkout - once you migrate to Checkout Extensibility, follow our guide to re-enable this reward in your checkout.

  • Advanced Post-Purchase Notifications - you should not migrate to Checkout Extensibility on your Thank you and Order status pages if you wish to use these, as Additional Scripts are not supported in Checkout Extensibility. Please take a look at our guide for enabling notifications to your Order status pages via Additional Scripts.

You can learn more about Shopify's sunsetting plan for checkout.liquid in their help docs.

FAQs

My post-purchase notifications are no longer working after I migrated to Checkout Extensibility. Do you know how I can fix this?

This is likely due to migrating your Thank you and Order status pages to Checkout Extensibility. You can undo this by following the below steps:

  1. In your Shopify admin go to Settings

  2. Click on Checkout, and hit revert:

I used the Points Slider in my old checkout. Why has the style changed for the Checkout Extensibility version?

Shopify has limited the styles and components available to Partners in the checkout. This brings a load of benefits to your shoppers;

  • Accessibility benefits

  • Uniform look and feel

  • Page optimization and speed

This means you should see increased checkout conversion rates and reward redemption with the new style compared to the old.

Brands using Reward: Redeem at Checkout via Checkout Extensibility have seen a 45% increase in reward redemption since migration.
